The rooftop of the main school building was he favourite place to go whenever he decided he wanted to skip class, or even during break when he just wanted to get away from Them.
Them was anyone. Someone. No one and everyone. They populated the school, the world around him, everywhere he went and everywhere he had been. It was impossible to avoid Them, especially those ones he’s been trying to slip himself into. Impossible, unless he ran away to his hiding spots around the school.
The rooftop was just one of them. Underneath the stands at the sports field during class was another. Behind the changing rooms, behind the main building where the delinquents usually hung out and up in the trees. All places that, at one point or another during the day, were completely deserted and free of Them.
Except those occasions when He decided that They were just too much for Him to handle as well. When He decided He just didn’t want to have to keep up the captain side of His act and wanted to be Himself.
The ball was the first thing to drop, landing in JK’s lap, before the team jacket landed on the rooftop beside him, the owner sitting down a second later. A packet emerged from the pocket of JK’s uniform jacket and the boy beside pulled out a lighter. JK eyed it for a moment.
“You’re out, aren’t you?” He asked, flicking open the lid of the packet and sliding a cigarette out. He caught Daimonji’s nod out the corner of his eye before sighing and offering him one. “You owe me.”
The captain snorted. “This is even,” he corrected him, grabbing the lighter back. He held the smoke in his lips, one hand cupped over the flame as he lit up before handing the lighter to JK again. He took a slow drag, savouring it for a few seconds before slowly exhaling. “I gave you one last week.”
JK rolled his eyes at him and lit up as well. “Whatever.”
